Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What should I do to prepare for the exam and pass the first time?

We strongly recommend enrolling in our seminars and purchasing the workbooks. Before the start of the semester, students can begin reading books and reviewing archives to become familiar with concepts. Any questions can then be cleared up with instructors during seminars, making classes more beneficial.

Most of our students who take the proper time to study and prepare do pass the exam their first time.

How do I enroll in seminars and purchase books?

To enroll in seminars, click on Seminars & Registration. To purchase PEDP books, click on PEDP Bookstore. For all other books, contact local bookstores or websites.

Can I enroll in seminars without having to re-purchase books if I already have them?

Fees for books and seminars have been separated and can now be purchased separately. See Seminars & Registration and PEDP Bookstore for individual fees.

I would like to attend seminars but live too far away, what can I do?

You can attend our seminars live online through our webcast, which is broadcast simultaneously across the country. When registering, simply enroll in ‘live off-site’ programs. Each seminar’s webcast is recorded and stored in our online archives, so you can also access our online archives 24/7.

To access live seminars online, simply click on ‘Live Login’ at the top of our website and log in using your username and password.

How do I access online archives?

Click on the ‘Archive Login’ at the top of the website and log in using your username and password. You can then access the seminars to which you have permission.

How do I obtain more archive time?

Additional archive time can be purchased at $10/hour for students enrolled in the seminar. Those who purchased workbooks can purchase additional archive time at $20/hour.

I missed a few seminars; can I still get a certificate?

You must attend the required number of days in order to obtain a certificate. All of that information can be found on our policies page.

I enrolled in the seminars but forgot to pick up my certificate; what should I do?

Email info@irvine-institute.org to make arrangements.

How do I contact instructors if I have more questions after their seminar?

Instructors will usually give out contact information at the beginning and/or end of seminars. You can also email Dr. Chelapati or call the office with questions or concerns.

I took the seminars but didn’t pass the exam. Can I re-enroll in seminars?

If you did not pass the exam the first time, you can re-enroll in seminars for a reduced fee of $60/day. We can also give free access to archives for one year, enabling you to review seminars from the previous semester. This guarantee is valid for one year following the exam taken. Please complete and submit our re-enrollment form along with your state exam results.

What is the difference between workbooks and manuals?

Manuals are older editions of volumes published by PEDP, with examples based on older codes. Workbooks are the newer editions of PE Civil manuals which have been added to and updated. Some workbooks also contain more information suitable for the longer portion of current exams. Click on PEDP Bookstore for pictures and tables of content for each volume.

What is the McGraw Hill e-book?

The McGraw Hill e-book is a supplementary volume that goes along with PE Civil Workbook Volume 9 (Construction). McGraw Hill publishes several textbooks on construction engineering that is referenced by the NCEES in its sample problems and solutions, and the e-book extracts key chapters from five textbooks recommended by the NCEES. Information in the e-book is referred to during construction seminars, so we recommend that students purchase this in order to further prepare for the exam.

How long will it take for books to be shipped to me?

Books are shipped by UPS Ground shipping and typically arrive in 3-5 business days. Orders to the east coast may take up to 5-7 business days. Orders outside the mainland United States (Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico) will be sent by USPS Priority Mail.

Can I pick up my books instead of having them shipped?

If you would like to pick up your book locally, let us know at the time of your order. Please come by the office in the afternoons after 2:00 PM, or pick up your book the day of the first seminar you attend. However, we recommend picking up the book in advance, in order to begin preparing for the exam as soon as possible.

If you enroll in multiple seminars, we will mail the book used for the initial seminar so that you can begin studying the material. Additional books (if any) can be picked up on the first day of the seminar.

Will IIT have more PE courses in the future?

Yes. IIT is currently developing a PE Electrical Engineering course, which we hope to offer in 2010. After that, we plan to offer a Structural Engineering course if there are enough students interested. Check our website for free pre-enrollment.

What is your return policy?

Please check our policies for more information.
